Sometimes it is difficult to determine if you have a case of “the blues” or full-blown depression which could benefit from depression therapy. Everyone gets very sad from time to time but most people are able to bounce back quickly. Some amount of sadness is normal and does not require the assistance of a depression therapist. Below are several signs that could indicate that it is time to seek depression counseling.
Bone Deep Lethargy
No one wants to get up out of bed on a Monday morning and go to work, but if you simply cannot get out of bed it may be depression. If you are not suffering from a physical illness and still cannot bring yourself to leave your bed, consulting a depression therapist may be right for you.
Experiencing Physical Symptoms Of Depression
Feelings of depression can quickly transform into physical sensations and illnesses. Similar to the lethargy listed above, depression can cause the body to feel sluggish, heavy and tired. Depression can also cause cold or flu-like symptoms to arise seemingly out of nowhere. Feelings of physical sickness intensify the feelings of depression and create a vicious downward spiral. If you experience this type of illness you may want to try counseling.
Becoming Non-Communicative
Should you discover yourself not wanting to talk to your friends or family about your feelings of sadness or depression, you might need a therapist to help you open up. You might feel that you are a burden or that you might inconvenience your friends or family by talking to them. No matter what the reason may seem to be, if depression is driving you into silence it may be time to reach out for help.
Feeling Alone
When you feel isolated or as if no one wants to speak with you about your depression or other feelings, reaching out to a therapist can help. Depression can lie to you and make you think that you are alone when in truth you are not.
